It’s billed as ‘The perfect blend of art and music’.
Admission is free.
Parking is free.
It runs for two days – today (Saturday, September 26th) was the first day. But if you missed it, it’s back for a second day on Sunday, September 27th.
This is a ‘Street Arts Festival’ - there are all sorts of booths selling handmade art, handmade crafts, bamboo t-shirts, food, drink, and much more. There’s a large stage set up in an empty lot which serves as the home for the music component of the festival, and there’s plenty of great music to listen to, with some truly excellent groups playing over the two day run.
On Saturday, the groups playing included South Carolina, Dave Hardin, Green Grass Boys with TC Carr, Sarasota Slim and Nitro, Rebekah Pulley & The Reluctant Prophets, Ben Prestage, and the highlight group, The New Familiars.
On Sunday, the stage will host Veronika Jackson, Ella Jet, Tribute to Woodstock, Have Gun, Will Travel, and the highlight group, a very popular group in many regions of the country, Donna The Buffalo (and if you’re wondering where such a strange name came from, the story is that they called themselves ‘Dawn of the Buffalo’, but the inebriated announcer who introduced the group slurred it so that it sounded like ‘Donna the Buffalo’ – the name stuck!
The festival is on Central Avenue, between 11th Street and 13th Street. Creative Clay, a clay studio and shop located at 1124 Central Avenue, is a driving force behind this street fair, but there are many other artists, shops, and volunteers involved who have worked hard to make it a fun destination for anyone who attends. If you have some free time on Sunday, I highly recommend that you stop by – you’ll enjoy yourself! And, remember, it’s free! For more information, visit the folkfest st. pete web site.
